Time to read 4 min
This 3 ingredient dog cake recipe is very easy and your dog will love it! When it comes to celebrating your dog's birthday or gotcha day you can treat them with a dog cake baked from your kitchen, using only 3 ingredients! Well, I guess water could be seen as the 4th ingredient… I just never think of water being an ingredient. You can also add a ¼ cup of blueberries making it a 4 (or 5) ingredient dog cake recipe. Dogs love both versions!
3 Ingredient Dog Cake Recipe
- 1 cup rice flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 TBS of olive or canola oil
- 1/4 cup water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Gather ingredients and a 3" cake pan, grease the pan with olive oil or coconut oil.
In a small bowl or stand mixer, mix together flour, eggs, oil and water; set aside. (If you want the cake to rise a little add 1 1/2 tsp baking powder but you can fill the cake pan to the top without adding it)
Spray or apply olive oil or coconut oil (stores do sell these in the baking aisle in spray cans) in your dog cake pan and fill with your dog cake batter. If you prefer cupcakes, you can use this dog cake recipe and simply pour the batter into cupcake paper lined cake pans, reduce the baking time to 15 minutes.
Bake for 18 minutes, test for doneness with a toothpick. Let cake cool on a cooling rack completely before adding a dog friendly frosting
Is frosting safe for dogs?
Yes, frosting is safe for dogs, as long as you are careful in choosing the ingredients. Some people make mashed potatoes and spread them on top or use mashed bananas as frosting for their dog cake.
Cream cheese dog frosting is used a lot but it does contain a lot of fat. It would be better to mix peanut butter and bananas together instead. Be sure to store this type of frosting in the refrigerator to prevent spoilage.

Selling homemade dog treats regulations
Selling homemade dog treats does have regulations that do vary from State to State. So, if you decide you want to start selling custom dog cakes you will need to become registered through your State's Department of Agriculture.
You can bake dog cake recipes for your own dogs and give them away for free but you will need to register each individual dog cake recipe if you start selling the cakes to customers. For example; if you do add blueberries, that would need to be registered as a separate flavor, every time you change the dog cake recipe you will need to have it analyzed at a commercial feed lab and then submit it to have it registered in each State that you sell in.
