How to Easily Decorate Spring Flower Shaped Homemade Dog Treats
Time to read 1 min
Homemade dog treats are fun and easy for adults and children to decorate. Wether you are looking to decorate dog treats to sell at a Farmers Market or to decorate at home for a fun activity, quality dog treat ingredients are your first place to start. You can find quality flours at local grocery stores or online; just be sure they are all safe for dogs.
Rolling Dough for Homemade Dog Treats
The easiest way to create homemade dog treats is to start with a firm, smooth dog treat dough and a shaped cookie cutter.
While you a mix your dough, preferable in a stand mixer, you want to make sure it is not too wet. You want the dough dry enough to form a ball but not wet enough to stick to your gloves or to your rolling pin.
Once your dough is mixed, roll it out with a rolling pin on a floured surface. If the dough is crumbly, add a couple of tablespoons more of water and mix it again in your dough mixer until it is no longer too dry.
After you roll out your homemade dog treats dough, cut it with your favorite cookie cutter shapes, then place them onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper and bake them.
Decorating Dog Treats with Icing that Does Not Melt in the Heat
After your homemade dog treats are baked and cooled, you can use your favorite tapioca based dog treat icing recipe or try using a dog treat icing that doesn't crack or melt.
To decorate the cute flower dog treats in the photo, be sure to add powdered food color before adding the water to form a perfect dog safe icing. We used a premixed dog safe icing mix from Pastries 4 Pets and added their dog safe pink and orange all natural powder food colors.
After the first, base color dried for @ an hour, we piped a thin white swirl in the middle of the flower and placed a tiny homemade dog treat bone while the white icing was still wet.
We let the finished flowers dry overnight so the dog treat would dry securely on to the flower and viola! adorable dog treats.
